01-07-2010 Winner Student competition Harnaschpolder

The entry 'Sustainable Shell' of Loed Stolte has won the competition for floating housing in the Hasnaschpolder. His entry was chosen out of the ten entries that were submitted. The design will be developed and realised by the municipality of Delft.

The other nominees were:
> Double Dutch (Halie Zhan and Jan Mulder)
> Kashuis (Bas Wetzel and Marlies van der Linden)
> Transformer (Suzanne Brouwer and Renske van Dieren)
> Living it Right (Laurence van Benthem, Rolf van der Leeuw, Floris van der Zee).

From the jury rapport: The design is highly appreciated by the jury. The design combines a strong and original image with a broad and consistently elaborated concept on sustainability. The architecture is interesting and dynamic and incorporates many ideas. At the same time the design is judged as commercially feasible. The student has thought of sustainability in a broad way, from the use of recyclable materials to water treatment and a climate concept. The jury appreciates the shape of the floating house, but warns for a too literal interpretation of the form concept.

There were four criteria that were important at this competition: sustainability, feasability, innovative and visionary power and architectural quality.

The jury consiss of the following people:
Sander Berkhout (Chair, Project leader Harnaschpolder, municipality of Delft)
Laurens Engelbrecht (Spatial planning/urban design expert, municipality of Delft)
Maaike Kaiser (Sustainability expert expert, municipality of Delft)
Bart Roeffen  (Architect, co-founder, DeltaSync BV)
Kees Duijvestein  (Emeritus Professor Sustainable development in the built environment, TU Delft)
Frits Schoute (Emeritus Professor TU Delft, founder Ecoboot)
