08-07-2013 Flood proofing critical infrastructure of Dordrecht

A case study on the critical infrastructure of Dordrecht has been carried out by students Tom den Ouden and Bob Souwer from the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. The objective was to look for quick-wins in flood proofing hotspot buildings within a critical infrastructure network, whilst taking into account Dordrecht's ambition to become self-reliant during a flood. The Quick-Win (QW) Critical Infrastructure method and Hotspots Flood Proofing (HFP) toolbox, developed within the EU FloodProBE programme, were combined and put to practice. This study was conducted in collaboration with Deltasync and the municipality of Dordrecht.

A key finding from the case study was that compartmentalisation of the critical infrastructure network is technically feasible, at a relatively low cost. The results of this research give a new perspective on making Dordrecht self-reliant during a flood. The case study results can be integrated in the next report of the Delta Programme.
